Dudley Port vs Woodbury: Match Report

Whilst the football world may be gearing up for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash that will see Man City or Liverpool take the lead in the race to league victory, the real competitive action has been taking place right here at Horizon.

After a competitive 4-4 draw earlier in the school year, Dudley Port hosted rivals Woodbury in a battle that was set to be a classic right from the off.

Cutting through Dudley Port’s defence like a knife through butter, Woodbury’s Star-Striker opened the scoring after just 3 minutes with a left-footed belter. But the hosts charged back almost instantly with some amazing team play to level the score.

Despite Woodbury’s determination to battle back into the game, Dudley Port didn’t let up the pressure, forcing their defence into an error that lead to a penalty for the host. Star-Keeper was having none of it – standing up to the challenge with a super save to keep the score level.

This gave Woodbury the motivation needed to apply pressure at the other end of the pitch, leading to another penalty – this time for the visitors. Star-Striker stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the corner, making it 2-1 to Woodbury.

The following passage of play saw Woodbury steam ahead into a 4-1 lead, with one star scoring twice in as many minutes, but Dudley Port came back strong with a wonder strike from Centre-Half scoring from just outside his own area to reduce Woodbury’s lead to 4-2.

A free-kick that followed lead to a hattrick for Woodbury’s Star-Striker to regain the 3-goal cushion, and the gap was further widened with a 20-yard screamer from another of Woodbury’s key players a few minutes later.

Dudley Port fought back valiantly, with a superb solo ‘Messi-esque’ goal from Right-Back, following by a freak fourth goal from a rebound, that caught Star-Keeper by surprise.

Keen to cement the lead, Woodbury’s Star-Striker stormed down the centre of the pitch to slot the ball into the back of the net, securing the 7-4 victory for the visitors, and taking home the Golden Boot.

Ed Barnes, Woodbury Head Teacher said “A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the game. It was played in great spirits, and the competitive comradery was fantastic to see. Thank you to Dudley Port for hosting us.”
