Dudley Port School Students Celebrate National Recognition in Writing Competition

At Dudley Port School, part of the Horizon Care and Education Group, students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs are being given the opportunity to shine in a variety of engaging activities. The school has a strong focus on offering its students broad, enriching experiences that foster personal growth and a sense of belonging.

As part of the school’s weekly house competitions, students from different age groups come together to compete in a variety of challenges. These competitions not only encourage friendly rivalry but also promote pride, achievement, and teamwork. Past challenges have included pumpkin carving, Christmas card design, football matches, and tug-of-war, all designed to build a sense of community and connection.

One notable competition already this year was a nationwide challenge set by Young Writers, where students were invited to write a 100-word story on the theme of “Fight or Flight.” The school submitted ten entries, and six of them were selected to be featured in a published anthology of national stories.

The recognition has been a tremendous boost to the students’ self-esteem, with many expressing pride in their accomplishments. One student shared, “I have not accomplished much before, but this is something I can be proud of!”

The success of these students highlights not only their creativity and talent but also the positive impact of Dudley Port School’s commitment to providing enriching experiences that help all students thrive.
