Draycott Moor College has completed the refurbishment of its learning spaces, marking a significant step forward in creating a therapeutic and responsive environment tailored to the diverse needs of its pupils.
The transformation initiative, which has been in the works since early 2024, aimed to overhaul the college’s physical and educational environments. The initiative included a redesigned timetable, a revamped curriculum, and a thoughtful reorganisation of pupil groups. These changes were implemented to foster a calmer, more open setting that optimises space and enhances the overall learning experience.
For an entire term, the college was bustling with preparations, and with boxes of flat-pack furniture, new resources, and equipment. The ambitious refurbishment was carried out in just one day, with staff working hard to replace old furnishings and bring in the new.
The results are exciting, including:
- Flexible Learning Areas: New beanbags, benches, and low-level seating options provide pupils with alternative ways to engage with their studies.
- Unique Furniture: Modern designs have replaced traditional school desks, creating a welcoming and versatile environment.
- Sensory Learning Enhancements: The classrooms now feature a wealth of new books, sensory resources, and materials tailored to pupils’ varying needs.
- Outdoor Classrooms: A raised bed garden area is ready for planting, and outdoor sails have been installed to enable lessons to take place in the fresh air.
Additionally, old furniture has been repurposed to enhance the school’s outdoor spaces, contributing to a more functional and inviting environment for both study and relaxation.
The newly designed classrooms are already making a difference, providing pupils with tailored spaces that support their individual learning preferences.
The college’s leadership expressed immense pride in the transformations and gratitude to all who contributed to the project, emphasising its positive impact on the future of Draycott Moor College and its pupils.
These updates reflect the college’s commitment to fostering innovative, inclusive, and engaging learning environments, ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to thrive.
