We are proud to share that a young person from Horizon, has been selected as a Youth Ambassador for England as part of the Children’s Commissioner Ambassador Programme.
Chosen from over 400 applicants, his video application was recognised as exceptional for powerfully showcasing his passion for advocating for young people.
On his first visit to London, he met with fellow Youth Ambassadors to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing children and young people today. His Residential Care Worker received feedback that he spoke passionately about the need to improve opportunities for young people in care, ensuring they have access to equal opportunities. They also said he highlighted the importance of supporting parents with better resources and guidance, to ensure more children can grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.
Looking ahead, he is particularly excited about his next visit to London, where he will have the remarkable opportunity to meet the Prime Minister. This will be a defining moment for him, allowing him to share the perspectives of young people with national leaders.
With the support of Dame Rachel De Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England, he will play a vital role in representing the views and experiences of young people and advocating for meaningful change.
As Dame Rachel De Souza stated:
“I’m excited to introduce 16 amazing young people from all over England who applied to be part of my Ambassadors programme. My Ambassadors have been chosen for their personal experiences and for their passion to try to change issues that really affect children and young people. Over the next 12 months, they will speak on behalf of children and young people across the country to the people in power. It’s going to be their job to make sure that politicians listen and act upon what children and young people have told me would make their lives and the lives of other children better.”
This is an outstanding achievement, and we look forward to seeing the impact he will make in this influential role.
A special thank you to the Residential Team for empowering this young person and ensuring his voice is heard.
